The Rotary Club of Southwest Cabarrus presents the 3rd Annual Bank of North Carolina Short Track Mountain Bike Series at the Town Park in Harrisburg, North Carolina. The five-race series draws nearly 100 competitors each week from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, and is the Rotary Club's primary annual fundraiser. This year the proceeds will go to help eradicate polio and to fund Alzheimer's research through Rotary International, and to help build affordable housing through Cabarrus Habitat for Humanity.

The title sponsor, Bank of North Carolina, has anchored the series all three years, and makes the series possible by providing the largest portion of the necessary financial backing. Several bike shops: Bike Line of Charlotte, Uptown Cycles powered by Total Cyclist, South Park Cycles, and Bicycle Sport's three locations provide series prizes. Hammer Nutrition, specializing in nutritional supplements for endurance athletes, and NiteRider Technical Lighting Systems provide special items for the race competitors; Charlotte Sports Cycling provides internet promotion of the series; the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel of Concord and the Bed and Bike in of Gold Hill, NC are the preferred accommodations, local businesses Alpha Commercial Real Estate, Cabarrus Community Bank and MiniXtreme Lube of Harrisburg provide financial support, Sunbelt Rentals provides lighting for the night races, and Zaxby's and Papa John's provide food for the competitors.
The races are all on Saturdays: November 8th, 15th, 22nd and December 6th and 13th. November 15th and December 6th are night races. The course is very fan friendly, so spectators are encouraged and welcome. There are categories for all skill levels, including juniors (under 19 years), beginner, sport and expert women and men. The trail is 0.7 miles long, featuring 8 banked turns and a fast downhill section. Races range from 25 to 60 minutes in length, depending on skill level. Registration for the day races opens at the Park Picnic Shelter at 9:00 am, and at 4:00 pm for the night races on each race date. Fees for competitors with USA Cycling licenses are $15.00 per race, and $20.00 without a license. Fees for Juniors are $10 with a USA Cycling license, and $15.00 without a license. The Harrisburg trail was built by the Tarheel Trailblazers, www.tarheeltrailblazers.com, and the Rotary Club of Southwest Cabarrus, www.swcabarrusrotary.org, for the Town of Harrisburg in 2005-2006.
