History of the Southwest Cabarrus Rotary Club
The Rotary Club of Southwest Cabarrus was the last rotary club founded in the 20th Century. Founded in December 1999, we are a continuously growing club of approximately 20 current members. The spirit and energy of its club members is the driving force of the Southwest Cabarrus club.
In 2009-2010, under the leadership of Richard "Dick" Lewis the club has serviced the Cabarrus Region and internationally on numerous levels. Our key fundraisers for the year are our Annual Bike Race Series and Harrisburg 5K and Family Fun Run that was Co-Sponsored with the Harrisburg YMCA. The fundraising we made through these events and other projects enabled us to support local organizations, such as the Jay M. Robinson Interact Club, Habitat for Humanity, Cooperative Christian Ministries, Community Free Clinic, CVAN, and a number of student scholarships. Our key service areas included, building the Harrisburg Park Bike Trail, volunteering with the Cabarrus County March of Dimes Walk, the beautification of the Speedway Boulevard area, and Operation Christmas Child. We anticipate the 2010-2011 year, under the leadership of Marion Sandlin, to continue to be a year full of growth in membership and service projects.
Current members who charted the club include:
- Benita Conrad
- Dale Gentle
- Bill Milligan
